Contribute an Interview or Story – Jazz Affine

Contribute an Interview or Story

Jazz Affine is built on conversations with working musicians, journalists, and writers who care about improvisation and the people behind it. If you’ve got an interview, live session report, or a perspective worth publishing, we want to hear from you.

What We’re Looking For

We publish artist interviews that go beyond the standard bio. We want exchanges that dig into how someone actually works: their process, influences, the gigs that changed them, failed projects, what they’re wrestling with right now. Length varies, but 2000-4000 words gives real room to breathe.

Live session coverage matters too. If you caught a memorable set or series of performances, we’re interested in your account. Context and detail beat recap. Tell us what happened in the room.

Guest essays and critical perspectives also fit. We’ve published pieces on listening practices, regional scenes, the economics of touring, and arguments about where jazz is headed. If you’ve got something to say that challenges or expands how people think about this music, pitch it.

How to Submit

Send a short pitch first. Tell us who you’d interview or what story you want to cover, why it matters, and who you are. A paragraph or two is fine. Include links to your previous work if you have published pieces online.

Email submissions to [email protected] with the subject line “Pitch: [Your Topic]”.

We aim to respond within two weeks. If we’re interested, we’ll discuss timeline, length, and any specific angles we think would strengthen the piece.

Guidelines

  • Report accurately. We fact-check before publication.
  • Write in your voice, not ours. We edit for clarity and length, not style.
  • Provide audio or video links when they help readers follow along.
  • Disclose any personal or financial relationship with your subject.
  • First publication preferred, but we consider strong reprints with permission.

We don’t pay contributors right now, but your work reaches an audience that takes this music seriously. We promote published pieces across our channels and link back to your website or social accounts.
